T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi
Eligible airlines, plans and how to connect
What Is T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi?
T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi is a partnership between T-Mobile and several US airlines that provides complimentary onboard internet access to passengers on eligible flights. The service is sponsored by T-Mobile but available to all passengers on participating aircraft, regardless of their mobile carrier.
On Delta Air Lines, the service is branded as Delta Sync WiFi and is free for everyone. On Alaska, Hawaiian and Southwest, passengers select T-Mobile as their WiFi provider in the portal and verify their phone number to access the complimentary session.
Do You Have to Be a T-Mobile Customer?
On Delta, no — the WiFi is free for everyone. On Alaska, Hawaiian and Southwest, T-Mobile customers get enhanced benefits (full-flight WiFi), while non-T-Mobile customers may still receive complimentary messaging or limited browsing through the airline's loyalty programme.
Which Airlines Have T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi?
Four US airlines currently participate in the T-Mobile in-flight WiFi programme. Coverage depends on the aircraft type and whether it has the necessary satellite or air-to-ground equipment installed.
| Airline | Coverage | System | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delta Air Lines | Most domestic fleet | Viasat / Intelsat | Free for all passengers via Delta Sync |
| Alaska Airlines | Most mainline fleet | Viasat | Free for all passengers via loyalty login |
| Hawaiian Airlines | A321 and select widebody | Viasat | Free for all passengers via loyalty login |
| Southwest Airlines | Most fleet | Viasat / Anuvu | Free for all passengers via loyalty login |
Aircraft substitutions and equipment upgrades mean WiFi availability can change at short notice. Always check with your airline before departure if staying connected is essential.
Which T-Mobile Plans Include In-Flight WiFi?
T-Mobile offers different in-flight WiFi benefits depending on your plan. Premium plans include unlimited full-flight WiFi, while mid-tier plans provide a set number of full-flight sessions per year plus unlimited one-hour sessions.

| Essential / other non-qualifying plans | Not included | Not included | Standard WiFi pricing applies — no T-Mobile in-flight benefit |

How to Use T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi
Connecting to T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi requires a few preparation steps before your flight and a simple connection process once onboard.
Before Your Flight
Check your plan
Open the T-Mobile app or log in at t-mobile.com to confirm your plan includes in-flight WiFi benefits. Go5G Plus and Magenta MAX typically include unlimited full-flight WiFi, while other qualifying plans include four full-flight sessions per year.
Enable WiFi Calling
Go to Settings → Connections → WiFi Calling and turn it on. This allows your phone to receive the T-Mobile verification text while in Airplane Mode.
Download the airline app
Install the Delta, Alaska, Hawaiian or Southwest app and create a free loyalty account. You will need it to access the complimentary WiFi portal.
Charge your device
In-flight WiFi drains battery faster than normal use. Bring a portable charger or check whether your aircraft has USB power at the seat.
Once You Are Onboard
Enable Airplane Mode
Switch on Airplane Mode after the cabin door closes. Then turn WiFi back on — keep cellular off.
Connect to the aircraft network
Select the airline's WiFi network (e.g., DeltaWifi, Alaska_Wifi). The captive portal should open automatically. If not, open a browser and navigate to any website.
Select T-Mobile as your provider
On the WiFi portal, look for the T-Mobile option or the free WiFi section. Choose T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi.
Enter your T-Mobile number
Type the phone number associated with your eligible T-Mobile plan. A verification PIN will be sent via text message.
Enter the PIN
WiFi Calling must be enabled to receive the text. Enter the PIN on the portal to activate your session.
Browse or stream
Once connected, you can browse, message and stream where bandwidth allows. The session lasts for the full flight (on qualifying plans) or one hour.

What Can You Do With T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi?
The capabilities depend on the aircraft's WiFi system. Viasat-equipped planes generally offer faster speeds and support streaming, while older air-to-ground systems may only support messaging and basic browsing.
Messaging
iMessage, WhatsApp, SMS via WiFi Calling work on all T-Mobile in-flight connections
SupportedWeb Browsing
General browsing and email work well on satellite-equipped aircraft
SupportedStreaming
Netflix, YouTube and Spotify work on Viasat-equipped aircraft with sufficient bandwidth
SupportedVoice Calls
WiFi Calling allows voice calls, but airline policy may prohibit voice conversations during flight
SupportedLaptop Access
You can connect laptops and tablets using the same T-Mobile verification process
SupportedHotspot Sharing
Sharing your connection via hotspot is not supported through the in-flight WiFi portal
Not supportedCan You Use It on a Laptop?
Yes. The T-Mobile verification process works on laptops and tablets. Connect to the aircraft WiFi, open a browser, select T-Mobile, and enter your phone number to receive the PIN via SMS on your phone.
Does It Support Text Messages?
Yes. With WiFi Calling enabled, you can send and receive SMS and iMessages. WhatsApp and other messaging apps also work over the WiFi connection.
Why Is My T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi Not Working?
Common issues and how to resolve them. If problems persist, ask a flight attendant whether the aircraft's WiFi system is operational.
I cannot see the T-Mobile option on the portal
- Make sure you are on an eligible airline (Delta, Alaska, Hawaiian or Southwest)
- Try refreshing the portal page or opening a new browser tab
- Switch WiFi off and on again to trigger the captive portal
- On Delta, look for Free WiFi rather than a T-Mobile branded option
I am not receiving the verification PIN
- Confirm WiFi Calling is enabled in your phone settings
- Toggle WiFi off and on to re-establish the connection
- Wait 2-3 minutes — SMS delivery can be delayed on satellite links
- Restart your phone if WiFi Calling was enabled after connecting
WiFi is connected but nothing loads
- Check whether other apps or websites work — some services may be blocked
- Try switching to a different browser
- Disconnect and reconnect to the aircraft WiFi network
- Accept the portal terms again if prompted
Streaming is slow or buffering
- Reduce video quality to 480p or lower in your streaming app settings
- Download content before the flight when possible
- Try again later in the flight — congestion is highest during boarding
- Messaging and basic browsing may still work even when streaming doesn't
Your plan is not recognised
- Check the benefits associated with the exact line you are using
- Family members on the same account may have different plan features
- Confirm eligibility through T-Mobile before your next flight
Security & Other Considerations
Is T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi Secure?
In-flight WiFi is a shared public network. While the connection itself is encrypted between the aircraft and the satellite, you should avoid accessing sensitive accounts without a VPN. Use HTTPS websites and consider a reputable VPN service for added protection.
T-Mobile WiFi vs American Airlines WiFi
American Airlines is not part of the T-Mobile programme. AA offers its own paid WiFi through Viasat, Panasonic and Gogo. Pricing typically ranges from $10-28 depending on the route and whether streaming is included.
Is T-Mobile In-Flight WiFi Worth Using?
If your plan includes it, absolutely — it is free. Even if you are not a T-Mobile customer, the complimentary messaging and browsing on participating flights is a genuine perk. For streaming, check whether your aircraft is Viasat-equipped before relying on it.
