We automatically classify each destination into a type profile that determines which rating categories matter most. A resort island shouldn't be penalized for lacking public transport, and a big city shouldn't be judged primarily on relaxation.
Destination types are automatically inferred from rating patterns, ensuring each place is judged fairly against what actually matters for that type of travel experience.
Different travelers have different priorities. A honeymooner cares about romance and scenery; a backpacker prioritizes value and transport. Our system calculates personalized scores for each travel style.

Destinations that truly excel in multiple areas deserve recognition. When a place has exceptional ratings (4.8+) in several categories, we apply a signature strength bonus to reflect its standout qualities.
This ensures iconic destinations rank where travelers expect them, rewarding places that deliver truly memorable experiences in their signature areas.
A well-functioning city with great transport and safety isn't automatically a bucket-list destination. We measure iconicity — does a place have truly exceptional culture, scenery, or things to do that make people dream of visiting?
Places with exceptional (4.5+) culture, scenery, or things to do get full credit. Rome, Paris, and Bora Bora score where you'd expect.
Well-run cities without standout appeal receive a small adjustment. Good infrastructure alone doesn't make a dream destination.
Global hubs, capitals, and UNESCO-rich destinations can offset this adjustment, recognizing their significance even without exceptional scenic or cultural ratings.
Not every destination suits every type of traveller. Our system evaluates each location for four distinct audience types, giving you instant clarity on whether a place matches your travel purpose.
