Which Airlines Offer Free WiFi? Complete In-Flight Internet Guide
Free in-flight WiFi is becoming much easier to find, but the word “free” can mean very different things depending on the airline.
Some airlines provide unrestricted internet access to every passenger. Others require travellers to join a free loyalty programme, travel in a premium cabin or fly on a particular aircraft. Several airlines advertise complimentary connectivity when they actually provide only text messaging rather than full internet access.
This guide explains which airlines offer free WiFi, what passengers can do with it and which restrictions to check before booking.
Airlines currently offering some form of free full internet access include: JetBlue Delta Air Lines United Airlines on Starlink-equipped aircraft Hawaiian Airlines Qatar Airways on Starlink-equipped aircraft Singapore Airlines Air New Zealand
JetBlue and Air New Zealand have some of the simplest offers because passengers generally do not need to purchase an internet package on equipped flights. Delta, United, Hawaiian, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines usually require travellers to join the airline’s free loyalty programme.
WiFi availability can still depend on the aircraft, route, satellite coverage and last-minute aircraft changes.
Policies and aircraft can change. Always check the WiFi symbol beside your flight before travelling.
JetBlue provides one of the most straightforward free airline WiFi services.
Its Fly-Fi service is available without a paid subscription or loyalty membership. Passengers connect to the onboard Fly-Fi network and may be asked to watch a short advertisement before receiving access for the flight.
JetBlue says every aircraft is fitted with free, high-speed WiFi. However, coverage can vary outside the continental United States, particularly on certain Caribbean, Central American and South American routes.

Passengers should still download important documents and entertainment before departure. Satellite coverage, weather and network congestion can affect performance even when the aircraft has the necessary equipment.
You can check the latest coverage information on the official JetBlue Fly-Fi page. JetBlue confirms that free WiFi is fitted across its fleet, although service availability can vary by location and route.
Delta offers fast, free Delta Sync WiFi to SkyMiles members on most domestic flights and a growing proportion of international services.
SkyMiles membership is free, so passengers can register before their journey and add their membership number to the booking. Once onboard, users connect to the DeltaWiFi.com network and log in using their SkyMiles details.

Delta is still installing and upgrading WiFi equipment across its international and regional fleets. Certain Delta Connection services and individual aircraft may therefore provide a different system, paid access or free messaging instead of complete free internet.
Look for the Free WiFi for SkyMiles Members label when selecting a flight. Delta also recommends checking the specific aircraft assigned to the service.
The official Delta onboard WiFi guide provides an aircraft-by-aircraft breakdown. Delta says free WiFi is available to SkyMiles members on most domestic and international flights, but its rollout is not yet universal.
United is introducing free Starlink WiFi across its fleet.
On Starlink-equipped aircraft, the service is free for MileagePlus members. Joining MileagePlus does not normally cost anything, but passengers should register and add their number to the booking before flying.
Starlink is designed to offer lower latency and higher speeds than many older aircraft satellite systems. The important limitation is that United’s rollout is still in progress. A flight operated by United does not automatically have free WiFi simply because the airline is installing Starlink.
By June 2026, United said more than 400 aircraft had Starlink and that installations were expanding to widebody international aircraft. The airline expects its coverage to continue increasing, but travellers must check their individual flight.
Passengers are normally notified if their flight is Starlink-equipped. Details are available through the United Starlink information page.
Hawaiian Airlines offers free Starlink internet on its equipped transpacific aircraft.
The service is available on flights between Hawaii and the continental United States and on international routes operated by equipped Airbus A330 and A321neo aircraft. Access is currently promoted as free for Atmos Rewards members.
Atmos Rewards is the loyalty programme associated with Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. Membership is free.

Hawaiian prohibits onboard voice and video calls even when the connection is technically capable of supporting them.
WiFi is not necessarily offered on short inter-island flights, which often use aircraft without Starlink. Passengers should check the operating aircraft rather than assuming every Hawaiian Airlines flight includes internet.
The airline explains its coverage and connection process on the official Hawaiian Airlines WiFi page. Hawaiian says its transpacific A330 and A321neo aircraft have Starlink and that the service is free for eligible members.
Qatar Airways has been rapidly expanding free Starlink WiFi across its long-haul fleet.
Starlink is available on selected Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft serving more than 130 destinations. Passengers can receive an initial period of complimentary access, while Privilege Club members can access the service for the full flight on eligible aircraft.
Privilege Club membership is free.
Qatar Airways advertises potential speeds of up to 500 Mbps, although actual performance depends on the route, connected users, satellite coverage and network conditions.

Some routes currently provide full-flight Starlink access without requiring a Privilege Club login. However, this should not be assumed for every journey.
If the assigned aircraft does not have Starlink, Qatar Airways may instead offer a shorter complimentary session or a paid internet package.
Check your destination and aircraft on the Qatar Airways Starlink page. The airline confirms that Starlink availability remains route- and aircraft-dependent.
Singapore Airlines offers unlimited complimentary WiFi to KrisFlyer members across Economy, Premium Economy, Business Class, First Class and Suites on connected aircraft.
KrisFlyer membership is free. Economy and Premium Economy passengers should add their KrisFlyer number to the booking before departure to make connecting easier.
Passengers in Business Class, First Class and Suites receive complimentary access regardless of ordinary Economy eligibility requirements. PPS Club members also receive free connectivity.
WiFi is available across most of the Singapore Airlines fleet, with the Boeing 737-800 NG being a notable exception.

Singapore Airlines warns that streaming, gaming and large file transfers may be unsupported or restricted. Coverage can also be interrupted in certain countries’ airspace because of regulatory requirements.
The Singapore Airlines connectivity guide confirms that KrisFlyer members receive unlimited complimentary WiFi across eligible cabin classes.
Air New Zealand provides free inflight WiFi on equipped international aircraft, without requiring passengers to buy a package.
Its connected fleet includes many Boeing 777, Boeing 787, Airbus A321neo and international Airbus A320neo aircraft. Domestic aircraft and some individual long-haul aircraft may not have WiFi.

Air New Zealand may limit high-bandwidth activities to ensure everyone receives a usable connection. Large uploads, intensive online gaming and high-resolution streaming may therefore be unavailable or perform poorly.
Passengers can check the Air New Zealand app for a WiFi icon beside their flight. It is worth checking again on the day of travel because a last-minute aircraft substitution can change availability.
The airline provides a current aircraft list in its free inflight WiFi guide. Air New Zealand confirms that connectivity is free on equipped services but is not available across its entire domestic fleet.
Whether Emirates WiFi is free depends on the passenger’s cabin, Emirates Skywards status and the aircraft operating the flight.
Eligible passengers include: Skywards members travelling in First Class Skywards members travelling in Business Class Skywards Platinum members in any cabin
Blue, Silver and Gold Skywards members in Economy or Premium Economy may receive free unlimited text messaging rather than complete internet access.
That means an Economy passenger may be able to use WhatsApp, iMessage or Facebook Messenger without being able to browse websites, send photographs or stream video.
Passengers who are not eligible for free access can normally purchase either a messaging package or a full-flight internet plan. Exact prices depend on the route and journey length.
Emirates has also started adding free Starlink connectivity to selected aircraft, but the airline operates a large and varied fleet. Travellers should not assume that every A380 or Boeing 777 provides the same system.
The latest eligibility rules are listed on the official Emirates onboard WiFi page. Emirates distinguishes between free complete internet for eligible passengers and free text-only messaging for other Skywards members.
Several airlines promote “free WiFi” or “free connectivity” when the complimentary service is limited to messaging.

Before relying on free onboard access, look for the phrases full internet, web browsing or streaming supported. A plan labelled chat, messaging or text access is not the same as unrestricted WiFi.

easyJet may provide a local wireless network on equipped aircraft, but this should not be confused with internet access.
The onboard network connects passengers to content stored on the aircraft, such as entertainment, games, flight information and food or shopping details. It does not ordinarily allow open web browsing, WhatsApp, social media or email.
Therefore, easyJet does not currently belong on the list of airlines offering free internet.
Ryanair does not currently provide general passenger WiFi across its normal scheduled fleet.
Passengers should download boarding passes, entertainment, hotel details, maps and travel documents before departure. Messages created during the flight will normally remain unsent until the device reconnects after landing.
British Airways offers onboard WiFi on many long-haul and selected short-haul aircraft, but full internet access is not universally free.

WhatsApp works when the airline provides internet access or a compatible free messaging plan.
Text messages usually require very little data and are therefore more reliable than photographs, voice notes or video calls. Messages may temporarily show as pending when the aircraft passes through an area without satellite coverage.
Voice and video calls are normally prohibited, even when technically possible. Airlines restrict calls to avoid disturbing other passengers and to comply with onboard policies.
