The Greek Island of Lesbos (Lesvos)
Lesbos (Lesvos) is one of the quieter Greek islands, offering an authentic Greek experience in a relaxed atmosphere. Holidays on this large island are popular with families, especially in the small resorts like Petra and Anaxos. The island is the third largest Greek island and has many unspoilt traditional villages and lots of green farmland just waiting to be explored. The beach resort of Skala Kallonis is a firm holiday favourite while beautiful Molyvos is perfect for those seeking a mixture of tradition and culture with some great nightlife. Skala Eressou has a wide sandy beach and is popular with families, Lesbos Beach honeymooners and gay couples. The resort has many businesses that are run by gay couples and also offers excursions which are for women only. The island’s main resorts offer a variety of water sports including scuba diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing, water skiing, canoeing and pedalos. For organised beach activities Thermi, Vatera and Sirgi are very popular. Away from the beaches there is plenty to keep the whole family occupied, like wandering around the markets, craft shops and artists studios. The island attracts many artists and writers with a number of resorts offering an alternative spiritual scene. Visitors to the island can experience a whole range of different experiences including astrology, meditation, thermal spas, tai chi and shiatsu. Walking, hiking, horse riding and cycling are on offer on the island along with boat trips to secluded beaches which should not be missed on your late deals to Lesbos. The island has a network of trails and paths which take cyclists through a variety of landscapes. The eastern part of Lesbos is the best part for terrain cycling, Molyvos with traditional villages, deserted coves and beaches, thermal springs and wonderful orchards and olive groves. There are lots of opportunities for day trips including visits to the medieval town of Molyvos, traditional villages such as Agiossos, the sandy beaches of Skala Eressos and Vetera and Mytilini which has an historic castle, historic settlements and museums.
